Wearing an outfit that makes us feel beautiful, stylish and confident is about so much more than the clothes we choose. The simple act of “dressing up” affects how we feel, how we think, and the energy we put out into the world. It is never really about impressing others, but on a much deeper level, it is about impressing (and inspiring) ourselves.
I started to think more about this during COVID. Even though my office was technically closed, I still preferred getting dressed and going to work. And each time I went to my empty office building, I dressed up as I always had. One day when I was getting ready to leave for work, my daughter jokingly asked “where are you going in that outfit??!!” I answered that I was going to work, to which she replied “you look like you are going to a wedding.” It was during that time that I realized that “dressing up” is about so much more that putting on your favorite clothes – it is actually a mindset. A very powerful mindset!! And our clothes are just one of the many ways for us to cultivate that mindset and to make our lives glow from the inside out.
Each day offers us countless opportunities (big and small) to elevate and enhance everything around us … to literally “dress up the day”. Everything from how we organize our spaces, how we spend our mornings, our relationships, the interactions we have with strangers, how we talk to ourselves, who we share our energy with, the clothes we choose, the meals we prepare, the gifts we give, etc. etc. The possibilities are truly endless because joy and inspiration can be found in all the little things we do each and every day. We live in those little things and in reality, they are not little at all. They are EVERYTHING and lucky for us they are EVERYWHERE!!!
A person I loved and admired always used to say “you put your signature on everything you do”. That always resonated with me because it speaks to how you choose to show up in this world. There are no rewinds, no pauses and no guarantees. Our lives are often bookmarked by the “big” moments, but our greatest joys are more often found in the little ones.
So this blog is dedicated to finding the things that light up every part of who we are and to taking every single opportunity to “dress up the day”.
